Torres had looked flat in recent weeks, and before the weekend hadn't scored since the opening day of the Premier League season against Sunderland.

However, after his brace at Goodison Park, Benitez believes Torres will grow stronger as the season goes on.

"It was important for Fernando and us that he has started scoring, so to get two in a derby is massive for him," Benitez said in the Liverpool Echo.

The Liverpool star then committed himself to the Anfield outfit and labelled The Premier League a ‘very interesting’ competition.

The Reds will face Torres’ old club at El Vicente Calderon in the Champions League, and the striker reckons meeting his fans will be a special moment.

Riera Excited by Torres Link-Up

Liverpool’s summer-signing Albert Riera is excited to team up with compatriot Fernando Torres at Anfield.

Manchester City's new billionaire owners are planning a world-record £135m bid for Cristiano Ronaldo in the January transfer window before turning their sights to, among others, Fernando Torres of Liverpool and Cesc Fábregas of Arsenal.

Torres Injured

Liverpool lost their 100 per cent start to the season start in an uninspiring goalless draw at Aston Villa.
More worryingly was the injury to striker Fernando Torres who limped off in the first half with a suspected hamstring strain.

"We don't know how long Torres will be out for yet," Reds boss Rafael Benitez told Liverpool's official website. "We'll have to wait for the results of the scan on Monday. It could be he is out for seven to 10 days, but until he has the scan we won't know."
