Atletico Madrid were able to begin life at the Wanda Metropolitan stadium with the victory over Malaga.

The 1-0 victory has helped the club remain closer to the top of the table. Antoine Griezmann came up with the only goal of the game, as he marked his return from a suspension. The second half goal from the French superstar once again highlighted the heavy dependency on him for the goals. Former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres continues to play a bit part role at the club, but that does not seem to worry the former Atletico Madrid youngster.

Torres claims that he is more than satisfied to be wearing the Atletico shirt in front of the supporters. Even though the 32-year-old has not been a first-team regular for the club, he continues to feel an important part of the team.

After having grown up supporting the team even as a youngster, it is not surprising that Torres does not want to leave the club just for the first-team opportunities. However, there is a significant possibility of Torres’ second spell with Atletico Madrid coming to an end in the summer, as his contract is up for renewal.

If Diego Costa indeed comes back to Atletico in January, it may be difficult for the club to retain Torres and Costa at the same time.

"For me, the satisfaction of wearing this shirt in front of these fans and feeling the affection they have for me is undoubtedly my greatest triumph. I think it has been a celebration for the athletes, who have enjoyed a stadium that would not have been possible without them or us, without all the ones that have made it possible in recent years to get here.If I do not play, I will train better, I will not lower my arms," said Torres.
