It was all smiles for David Villa over the weekend as he scored his first goal for his new side Vissel Kobe in the 1-0 victory against Sagan Tosu. In a game billed as a reunion of three Spanish World Cup winning players in the form of Villa, Andreas Iniesta and Fernando Torres the game was cagey with few chances.
Torres had a good chance to put Sagan Tosu in front but fired wide in a first half dominated by Vissel Kobe. In the second half, Kobe sprang out of the traps early and Villa turned the ball in after a defensive mistake from Sagan Tosu in the 54th minute to score his first goal for the club.
“There was not much action in the second half as the home team“ held on for a priceless win. Villa speaking after the match expressed his delight in scoring his first goal for his new club
The former Atletico Madrid ace also spoke of his desire to continue this run for the Kobe outfit. Fellow teammate Andreas Iniesta believes that the goal would be the first of many for the team and also thanked the supporters for the fiery “atmosphere during the game“.
Fernando Torres and Sagan Tosu have continued their poor run of form from last season as the club are yet to collect a point in their first two league games this season. The former Chelsea forward revealed after the game that it was a great feeling to play against his former teammates but lamented the outcome of the result.
Vissel Kobe have been huge spenders in the Japanese League in recent years as they seek to become the top team in Japan. Owned by Barcelona shirt sponsors Rakuten, the club have attracted several top European players and currently has Lukas Podolski, Andreas Iniesta and David Villa on its books.
